why I developed 
this hook

I've been crocheting for over 35 years. In that time, I've taught thousands of students, designed hundreds of patterns, and spent more hours with a hook in my hand than I could ever count.

 

And for most of those years, I did what every crocheter does: I compromised. No single hook had it all, so I settled for "close enough" depending on the project and where my hands hurt that day.

But I kept coming back to one thing: crochet isn't just a hobby for most of us. It's how we decompress, feel creative, and take care of ourselves. And if your hands and wrists can't keep up, all that goodness goes away. As makers, our hands are our biggest asset, and they deserve tools that are actually worthy of the craft we love.

 

So eventually, I stopped settling. I designed the hook I always wished existed, tested dozens of prototypes myself, then put them in the hands of real crocheters and listened to their feedback. I kept reworking until we had a design that felt as good as it looked.

Why is this hook $30?

The plastic hook has the right shape but the wrong glide. The metal one has a thumbrest but the wrong tip. The pretty one looks great on a shelf but feels wrong in your hand. 

 

We built this hook so you don't have to pick. Pointed tip, liquid-glass glide, flat thumbrest, etched size markings that won't rub off — and every one hand-poured from artist-grade resin, swirled, cured, and polished by hand. It's a process that takes days per batch and can't be automated. Which is also why no two are alike.

Is this right for knife grip or pencil grip?

Both. The thumb rest sits where your thumb naturally lands either way, so the hook stays oriented whether you're holding it like a knife or a pencil. We tested with crocheters across both grips before we finalized the shape.

Does this work for left-handed crocheters?

Yes. The hook is symmetrical, so the thumb rest works the same in either hand. Crochet on, lefties.

I have arthritis or hand pain. Will this help?

A lot of our testers said yes, but every hand is different and we can't promise a specific outcome. What we can tell you is the intentional design decisions we made:

  • a wider contoured handle to ease your grip
  • a shorter shaft so your wrist doesn't need to work as hard to stay in control
